Trooping of the Colours June 2012

The Trooping of the Colours is a military pageant of paralleled pomp and circumstance, exclusive to a country steeped in a rich history of the military.

Instigated by Charles II, It takes place on the Queens official birthday, which, this year will be on the 16 June, and will take place at Horse Guards Parade Ground at Whitehall with the Queens official guards, the Household Division, in attendance.

This magnificent spectacle has over 1400 men, 200 horses and 400 musicians showcasing the very best in marching and close order drill unsurpassed anywhere in the world.

The parade starts at Buckingham Palace and goes down the mall culminating in the Trooping of the Colours at Horse Guards parade in front of the Queen before retracing its route back to the palace after a fly past from the royal air force.

As this is probably one of the greatest military pageants in the world, obviously it attracts massive global attention and tickets for the parade and route are highly sought after. But there is a solution to this conundrum which you may not be aware of. For the proceeding two weekends, there are full dress rehearsals which are in every way similar, apart from the Sovereign is not in attendance.

The Jubilee Greenway Walk

February 2, 2012

The Jubliee walk takes you on walking tour of London’s most iconic landmarks. It was initially designed to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 and the original route connected all of the city’s most famous sights, from Buckingham Palace to St St Paul’s Cathedral.

Now, inspired by the London 2012 Olympic games and the forthcoming celebrations of Her Majesty’s 60 years reign with The Diamond Jubilee the walk is now longer, exactly 60 kilometres long, one kilometre for each year of Her Majesty’s reign. The Jubilee Greenway Walk which is popular with cyclists as well as walkers is currently being waymarked so taking a map would be wise until work is complete. A map can be found here: http://www.walk4life.info/walk/jubilee-walkway-section-1

If your planning on visiting London in 2012 and planning on going on the Jubliee Walk why not book a room with us here at Kensington West.
